Berea West suburb focus

The suburb of Berea West in Westville, is a tranquil spot to live which still offers excellent value for property buyers.

About the area:

Westville has and always will be a family-orientated suburb and Berea West is no different. Set slightly above Durban, the area offers its residents a tranquil spot in which to live and play.

Lightstone statistics indicate that sales in Berea West in Westville have been fairly consistent over the past six years. In the last 12 months, 58 freehold properties have been registered at the Deeds Office for an average price of R1,629m. I love the fact that I can come home from a busy day at work and relax in a country-like atmosphere... and the shopping, I adore the shopping facilities in the area.

Although the price of property in this area is somewhat lower than in other areas of Westville, this does not affect the charm of living in this upbeat suburb, and residents enjoy a wide variety of shopping facilities on their doorsteps. There are a number of top schools in the area including Berea West Senior Primary and Berea West Preparatory schools. It is also close to the Westville campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

The convenience of living in Berea West cannot be over-emphasised: good shopping and access to all the major arterial routes form part of the attraction. Central Durban is a mere 13km away, while it takes approximately 14 minutes to get to Pinetown. For those who fancy a trip up the North Coast, Umhlanga is just 27,5km away.

Because of the suburb’s central location, The Pavilion Shopping Centre, Westwood Mall and the Westville Village Market are all close by, offering a wealth of shopping and entertainment opportunities.

The advantages of living here appear to have had an impact on how long people reside in the area, with Lightstone recording that 52% of Berea West’s residents have lived here for more than 11 years. In a fast-paced world of change, this statistic shows that living in this suburb is pretty much for keeps.

"I love the fact that I can come home from a busy day at work and relax in a country-like atmosphere... and the shopping, I adore the shopping facilities in the area" says resident, Amy Cook.

Westville
Soothing suburban life
Westville offers an array of different property types, sizes and styles. All in the same street one could find a dutch styled home next to a modern home with a large garden, alongside an apartment block block offering a lock-up-and-go lifestyle. This area appeals more to families, with many great schools available. However, it also appeals to young professionals, singles and the elderly who appreciate the joys of living in a quiet, peaceful neighbourhood.
