The owners of a daycare in Benoni are forced to sell when their daughter takes ill. Henk and the team help transform the rundown space and make it attractive to buyers.
Pieter and Madeleine Venter bought little pixies playschool in Benoni and have been operating it as a day-care with a classroom for home-schooled students. The building has a large reception area, three classrooms, two bedrooms, a children’s restroom, a water closet for adults, a kitchen and a garage that has been converted for the home school learners.
Madelein loves working with children, but when their daughter, Somé, was diagnosed with a rare disease - they have to face the reality that a day-care, where children constantly carry germs, is potentially fatal for Somé.
Everybody is eager to help, but none as eager as broker Marika Grové of Re/max Randgro. The property is in serious need of tender love and care as upkeep has taken a back seat to constant hospital visits. The day care has peeling paint, the garden is dying, the reception and facade is uninviting and the home school class has been severely water damaged.
Kevin’s team undertakes to repair the home school class room and to paint the knotty pine ceiling in reception and install downlights to modernise the area. Kyle plans a new play area, complete with grass, integrated with a hopscotch area and colourful flowers.
Marika recruits her agents to give the entire property a fresh coat of paint with fun details for the children and Lara teaches Madelein how to recycle old crayons using cookie moulds and the kitchen oven to make new rainbow crayons. ‘Unique projects’ meanwhile overhaul the reception counters, install shelving in the office and build a handy storage unit for the children’s nap time mattresses.
Tension between Marika and Henck reaches boiling point as Marika, desperate to help the family, blows the budget and puts the entire renovation at risk by ordering more work and more material. Henck and Marika have it out at her Randgro offices and realise that they both just want the best for the family.
The space has been transformed
The final reveal arrives and the Little Pixies is barely recognisable to a visibly emotional Madelein. The place has been completely changed. The walls have been painted, the garden smartened up and the façade looks as good as new. Inside, the reception is inviting and light as everything from ceiling to floors have been updated in a clean white and the dingy lights have been replaced with modern LED’s. The walls in the play area have been updated with new art and Lara has chosen colourful rugs to keep the room playful but modern. In the home school class, the rotting carpets have been replaced by new ceramic tiles and the water damaged walls have been rhino boarded, painted and finished with cornicing and new lights.
The family is ecstatic and the buyers impressed as the property is neat and inviting and offers loads of space for a booming day care business. Marika has had several offers on the property and is certain that it will be a quick sale with a healthy price tag.
