Rhodes Memorial - The magnificent floodlit memorial to Cecil John Rhodes, designed by Sir Herbert Baker, stands on the slopes of Devil's Peak, on the Northern flank of Table Mountain. It was built in 1912 on the very place where Rhodes used to sit and contemplate his future. Today Rhodes Memorial is a national landmark, providing a magnificent view of industrial Cape Town out over the airport and the Cape Flats to the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains and the nearby imposing African Ivy League University of Cape Town on your left, Mostert's Mill below and to your right in the oak-lined avenues of Newlands, is Genadendal - the President's Cape Town residence. The majestic structure provides a favourite picnic and sundowner spot, whilst the adjacent Rhodes Memorial Tea Gardens and Restaurant, offers a breakfast as well as luncheon menu between 9am and 5pm.
