A bird sanctuary on your porch...

Situated next to the Vermont Salt Pan with its bird sanctuary and walkways right around, this type of property rarely comes on the market. Your new home will be north facing with lots of sun in winter, and lazy sunset hours in summer.

Snuggled between the Onrus Mountains and the whitecaps of the seaboard lies the coastal picturesque hamlet of Vermont (Green Mountain). The villagers are very proud of the areas natural heritage and the locals are mostly enthusiastic nature lovers and avid bird and marine life watchers. The town fathers of Vermont were very adamant about not wanting to destroy the exceptional character which all residents and frequent visitors love and placed a moratorium on the future exploiting of the town by too many commercial projects. The town must be one of the closely guarded secrets of the Overberg , which means that the flora and fauna stays protected, the magic lives on, and the locals are friendly, welcoming and hospitable people. Vermont is renowned for not only all the areas zoned as public open spaces or Green Belts, the Vermont pan with its bird hide and all the different bird species, its frequent sightings of whales and dolphins, its ever present mountain views, and then to top it all its beautiful coastal walkway leading all the way from the Onrust River mouth and the beaches , to the privately owned Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve on its Western side. The hidden jewel in the Vermont crown must be the unspoilt dunes and the beautiful private beach Brekfis bay (so called, according to the locals, because of the day- long Breakfast feeling of the area. The area was developed along the contours of the original dunes, which offers beautiful sea views all the way across the Walker Bay to Danger Point and Gansbaai, from the back to the front of the town. The temperate climate of the area calls for long summer days with lots of sunshine and cool, not cold, winters. The Hermanus people are also very proud of the regions champagne air which casts a soft hue across the landscape in the late afternoon.

Experience Hermanus

Between the rocky coastline and the green mountains lies "the village", as it is referred to by the locals. The residents of Hermanus have tried to keep the fisherman's village style of this town in tact, over the years. This neighbourhood is famous for Southern Right Whale watching during winter and spring, and is a popular retirement town. With a relaxed lifestyle, Hermanus is a fisherman's paradise and perfect for those who appreciate a slower pace of life, surrounded by majestic natural wonders.
