Holiday down south

Starting from Amanzimtoti all the way through to Port Edward, the South Coast is known for its sunny weather, popular beaches and endless coastal holiday destinations. We bring you a few of the amazing places you can explore along this coastal, relaxed region of KwaZulu-Natal.

Port Shepstone

A hidden gem, Mantis and Moon Backpackers Lodge is ideal for nature lovers or as a yoga retreat. Set in a private jungle, close to the beach, you have a choice of staying in a tree house cabin, glass cabin or even a tipi.

For the adventurous, Lake Eland Game Reserve and Oribi Gorge offer incredible outdoor experiences. Lake Eland is rustic, providing camping or log cabin accommodation overlooking a dam. View game, hike or mountain bike, and take on Africa’s longest zip-line tour. Orbi Gorge is great for staying over or visiting for the day.

Umzumbe

Surrounded by indigenous coastal vegetation and boasting beautiful sea views, Pumula Beach Hotel was awarded Trip Advisor’s 2016 Travellers’ Choice Award. Enjoy endless activities at the beach, an exclusive swimming pool, or a hiking trail adventure close by.

Port St Johns

Looking for a water sports getaway? A popular choice for water lovers is The Pont, which is ideal for boating, jet skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, canoeing or fishing.

“I regularly visit The Pont, whether for a getaway or a day trip. It’s looking great after they’ve upgraded their facilities and is generally a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors,” says visitor Shane Swan.

Port Edward

There is so much to choose from when you reach Port Edward. A popular holiday spot, the Wild Coast Sun has hotel accommodation and caters for everyone. There are exciting water sports, a fun water park, a casino, beautiful golf course and fun entertainment and eating spots for the whole family.

Best in food:

  • Mac Banana – Port Edward
  • The Fish Eagle Restaurant – Port Edward
  • The Waffle House – Margate
  • Enzo Pizzeria Trattoria – Scottburgh
  • The View – Amanzimtoti

Things to do:

  • Explore the many beautiful beaches.
  • Go for a coffee tour at Beaver Creek Coffee Farm.
  • Take the family to the Wild Waves Water Park at the Wild Coast Sun.
  • Enjoy game viewing, hiking, mountain biking and zip-lining.
  • Play a game of golf at one of the choice golf courses.

I regularly visit The Pont, whether for a getaway or a day trip. It’s looking great after they’ve upgraded their facilities and is generally a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.

Pumula Beach Hotel will be over 90% full for the upcoming Christmas holidays… simply because it is one of the best venues around for a totally family-orientated South Coast beach holiday.

Amanzimtoti
Unwind by the sweet water
Amanzimtoti, meaning 'the water is sweet' is a laid-back coastal town near Durban. This town attracts the young, old, retired and working class - all for the same reason.. the beach! With the beach being the main attraction in this neighbourhood, surfing, swimming and fishing are the most popular outdoor activities and holiday makers flock here in summer. Life moves a little slower in Amanzimtoti, and many people like to live here and commute to work in Durban.
