Shanan Christian School, located in Farrarmere, Benoni, is an independant school that offers more than you would expect, in a caring environment.
Shanan Christian School loves children. In the education of all of the learners, the school develops certain fundamental life skills that aid in the well-rounded advancement of every individual. With a strong Christian ethos, these skills and values will assist them in everyday life, and help them to best cope with any challenges, regulate their interactions and relationships, and guide them in the realisation of their potential.
In the classroom, these skills and values are imparted by qualified teachers who help and support them in attaining their best abilities. Many of the learners that matriculate from Shanan Christian School go on to excel in the professional arena and in all of their after school pursuit. The academic life of the school is enhanced and complemented by a rich variety of extra-curricular activities. These offerings include chess, soccer, volley ball, netball, mini-cricket, swimming, table tennis, cross country and athletics. Learners are entered for outside cricket and tennis matches, and Shanan Christian School participates in the annual Benoni Eisteddfod.
The school also has an active praise and worship course and band, and the high school learners are given the opportunity to participate in annual conventions that promote sport, culture and academics. The success of the co-curricular calendar is personified by the provincial and national representatives from the school in cricket, chess and Irish dancing. With the amount of promise shown by the learners in the extra-curricular field, many more of these representatives are expected in the future.
The Christian life of the school has further practical application in the broad number of community projects that the school involves itself in. Shanan Christian School is always involved in mission trips and outreach initiatives. The school is currently supporting a nursery school in Ivory Park called Hope of Life. The support offered is financial, through food parcels and with their curriculum. The school also runs annual trips to Swaziland and Zimbabwe where they do ministry work. They also distribute clothes and food for the lesser-privileged people there. Some of the staff also involve themselves in mission work for Royal Family Kids Camps for abused and neglected children.
