Taste of Argentina in Umhlanga

A hot new Argentinian restaurant just north of Durban, will get your taste buds tingling.

Did you know that the love of cooking and sharing a meal is a distinct part of the Argentine lifestyle? Argentines have days arranged around sharing delicious meals with family and friends. Sunday lunch in Argentina is noted as the most significant meal of the week, gathering family and friends around a feast that’ll help you start your week well. Bar Ba Coa in Umhlanga tries to emulate this lifestyle.

Beef or beef?

Renowned for their beef-oriented diet, the Argentine people are meat-eaters by culture, and that’s why Bar Ba Coa celebrates the age-old love affair between food and fire. Bar Ba Coa cooks with coals, flame-grilling steaks and burgers aplenty, with chicken, fish and succulent seafood extending the range of the menu. Vegetarians, don’t despair – the Provoleta Argentina, with grilled aubergine and provolone cheese will please you infinitely.

On the side

It might seem strange to mention the sides at an establishment that’s so focused on beef, but we need to talk about the mash. You haven’t had potato mash until you've tried this. Whatever you order as a main meal, ensure you choose the mash as your side. You’ll wonder if you can get a second serving of it. Before you finish your meal, take a peek at the Mozart ice cream flavours on offer too. Served in a chocolate-topped cone, the kids will love picking their favourite flavour before heading home.

Time to tuck in

Bar Ba Coa is open for lunch and dinner, so you’ll need to pop in between noon and 3pm, and 6pm and 10pm respectively, but call to book a table beforehand, so you can be assured a spot at this popular eatery.

A special event

If you’re planning a birthday party or similar celebration, Bar Ba Coa can help. Book out the ocean-facing patio or indulge in an Asado celebration for your special event. Asado is a celebration of different cooking techniques, so you’ll be served a variety of dishes to share, which is great for friendly gatherings or even a business luncheon.
