The scheme will consist of an earth fill dam with an impermeable core, referred to as the New Biggen Dam. The dam would have a capacity of 77 million cubic metres of water and has a yield of 348 Ml/day. The scheme would consist of a WTP at the edge of the dam that would produce 43.3 Ml/day. This scheme will have the capacity to supply the entire uMzimkhulu Local Municipality and adjacent local municipalities with potable water and would have the option to be upgraded in the future.
