The Trafalgar Marine Protected Area shoreline is 4.8km in length, making it one of the smallest in South Africa. Trafalgar Marine Protected Area was promulgated primarily to protect a petrified forest of fossils that become exposed in the intertidal zone which are visible at low tide There are other fascinating features along the coast including cretaceous sandstone formations and extinct seashells and shark teeth all visible as mentioned above, at low tide. The Trafalgar MPA is a tiny treasure. Adjacent to Trafalgar is the Mpenjati Nature reserve which boasts marshes and freshwater wetlands.
Beautiful, sandy, Trafalgar beach has blue flag status with a natural tidal pool too and, as mentioned, is a marine protected area. in the intertidal zone during low tide. The unspoiled area also has wildlife such as BlueDuiker bokkies and Bush Buck as well as Dassies. The town has several shops and a great pub and grill including a convenience store that has iets van alles.
