Real estate is no joke: Trevor Sturgess

Spotlight-TrevorCentury 21’s Trevor Sturgess is a funny man: he used to be on the professional stand-up comedy circuit with the likes of* Joe Parker. But the lifestyle was apparently no laughing matter …*

“We toured the country and had a great time doing all the casinos and many excellent venues. But partying all the time doesn’t lend itself to making a success out of your life. I have the greatest respect for the comedians and entertainers who have kept it together for so many years – I couldn’t. The night-life became too much for me and I gave it up. I gave up the rock ’n roll lifestyle for real estate!

And he says this is the best decision he ever made. “A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I'd do it again! The positive side is that I’ve become a top-performing estate agent. My wife, Ruth, and our son, Taylor, make up the Sturgess Team. We are the best.”

In February, Trevor and his team are going to the Century 21 Global Conference, which is significant, he says, because Century 21 is the biggest real estate organisation in the world. “Right now I can see a hot-air-balloon company saying: ‘No they’re not!’ But, yes we are. Haha!”

In the good old days …

Trevor dabbled in real estate while also making jokes for a living: “Selling property used to be a lot easier. I did it part-time. Scribbled a few details on an offer to purchase, got people to sign it, dropped it off at the office and waited to get the commission.”

Nowadays, as we all know, the industry is a lot more professional and the career is immensely demanding. Trevor has some astute advice for aspiring agents … “Go into stand-up comedy, politics, religion, life insurance or second-hand car sales first. Then you can do anything!”
