Pecan farmer''s delight in Hekpoort

This farm located at the Magaliesburg foothils tells the beautiful tale of 35 years of tender loving care and dedication. This Pecan farm is registered with the South African Pecan Nut Producers Association and has just over 1500 pecan trees and the orchard covers 18 hectares.

It is divided into 8 blocks with 7 different cultivars:

Western - 43 trees Ukulinga - 289 trees

Wichita - 396 trees Pawee - 39 trees

Choctaw - 293 trees Shoshoni - 25 trees

Barton - 34 trees Mahaan - 7 trees

Mohawk - 244 trees Moore - 18 trees

Eliot - 69 trees

The orchard is planted East to West and fertilizers applied with organic methods. Area specific flora and grass planted amongst the trees. The trees are between 20 and 30 years of age and a few trees were replanted 5 years ago.

There are two covered reservoirs that gravity feed the irrigation system in the orchard. There are 2 driplines 1 on each side of every lane and also a micro sprinkler with every tree. There are two registered boreholes with Water rights from the Magalies River. They yield on the boreholes are 5 000 and 9 000 literes per hour.

At the heart of the orchard you find a charming 2 bedroom home which was utilised as a guesthouse before. It was cleverly designed with incorporating the existing buildings and creating a modern feel to a characterful dwelling. Large open plan lounge and kitchen, two beautiful bathrooms, 2 rondawel shaped bedrooms, and a large covered porch overlooking the orchard and the mountain vistas.

The rest of the farm has Wild Olive bushveld and is ideal for cattle and game grazing.

The Magalies Mountain has a trail and could be developed further which leads to the top of the mountain.

The main farmstead and pecan processing warehouse is on the opposite side of the gravel feeder road. You will find the character 3 bed farmhouse with groomed gardens. 1 bed cottage, workshop and sheepshead, as well as 1000sqm pecan processing warehouse with drying shelves and sorters etc with large office space and reception. This part borders on the Magalies River.
