Episode 11 – Small improvements, big results

Private Property South Africa
Private Property Reporter

The challenge for the team this week is to show how small changes can make a big difference when selling an apartment.

The team is in Port Elizabeth this week for a renovation of Adri's seaside apartment in Summerstrand.

The apartment is already in very good condition so the challenge is to show how cosmetic improvements can make a difference and add even more value to an already beautiful space.

Henck introduce Adri to Marcel from RE/MAX Independent Properties and Kevin from Po10tail Property Consulting. Marcel has been inducted in the RE/MAX Hall of fame and is the perfect agent to sell Adri's apartment.

Kevin notices that the spare room is dark and the paint colour on the walls makes this even worse. Kevin has a plan to hide electrical wires in the TV room behind a wooden feature wall.

Henck pops in by the Private Property offices and asks COO, Mark Coetzee how the Private Property website benefits agents and property buyers.

At the apartment interior designer Lillian shows Adri clever way to transform an old door into a beautiful table by adding legs and painting it white. She also tells Adri that she wants to keep the ocean inspired look for the furniture but wants to add some colour by adding cushions.

The team is interrupted by a member of the body corporate who storms into the apartment. He tells the team that they received various noise complaints the previous night and that there's a rule that no work may be done between 12:00 - 13:00 during the day.

Henck tries to reason but rules are rules and no exception can be made. The team are thus forced to put down all tools and wait the period out.

Time for the big reveal Henck and Marcel start in the TV room and reveal the wooden case behind the TV that looks amazing and is a very clever way to hide any unsightly cables. The choice of furniture is bold but works nicely in the space and brightens up the room.

The door at the entrance has been painted white and a small side table has been installed all along the wall of the hall. The table is perfect for keys or cellphones and adds depth to the otherwise bland hall.

In the spare bedroom Adri is blown away. The room appears much bigger because the walls have been painted white and Kevin turned one wall into a feature wall by using ceiling plates, sticking it on the wall and painting over it. Mirrors were also added to reflect the downlights for even more light in the room. This goes to show that you can add more value to a property that already looks great by doing small cosmetic changes.

Marcel shows Adri the reaction of potential buyers who are very keen to put in offers.

After a very successful week the team congratulates each other and the episode ends on a high note.
