Episode 6: Five families, one home in need of a revamp

Henck and the team head to KZN’s South Coast to help 5 families renovate and sell their home in Southport.

The families bought the property together as an investment. On arrival Henck is met by Mandy and Ursula who will be representing all the investors.

During the walkthrough with the design team it is apparent that the kitchen which was recently done doesn’t need any work.

Real estate agent Estelle Symcox points out that the main bedroom is rather outdated and needs a face lift. In the bathroom, Mandy tells the team that the bathroom needs immediate attention - the vanity cupboard is mouldy and the bathroom door does not close properly.

Work begins

The bathroom and bedroom gets new tiles, the walls are painted and a headboard gets installed on the bedroom ceiling. Modern lights which hang from the ceiling board are installed. One wall is turned into a feature wall by painting it dark blue.

Estate agent Estelle arrives back at site to discuss the prospects of having the porch done as well. Although the team is very busy she insists that work be done to it.

A porch that overlooks the beach is a huge selling point for property on the South Coast so it’s important that it be revamped. After much deliberation Kevin and Callie decide to build a bar on the porch and to paint the roof bulks in the same blue as the feature wall in the bedroom.

The big reveal

Mandy and Ursula are blown away with the bar on the porch. The team cut out indents on the face of the bar and put down-lights in to bring the bar to life.

The bedroom looks amazing. The tiles make the room feel more open, clean and modern and the headboard painted in gold and bronze adds glamour while complementing the blue feature wall.

The bathroom looks open, clean and fresh. The floor and walls have been tiled. The shower door has been replaced and the old mouldy vanity cupboard has been replaced by a wood table that the team found in the house and repurposed.
