Charles Vining, Seeff’s MD in Sandton, says Sandhurst is arguably the most prestigious suburb in Sandton, where the most super-homes in Johannesburg are found.

Home sales in Sandhurst have been as high as R80 million in the past five years and many international businessmen and women - earning their salaries in dollars and looking for a Johannesburg base - invest here. Coronation Road in Sandhurst is also highlighted as the most high-value street in Gauteng with an average house value in the tens of millions.

“Most homes on the market in Sandhurst are priced between R20 and R30 million, but on the rare occasion that a home of R60 million or higher will be listed, it will be a magnificent property. Besides the home of R150 million, another home of R80 million is also currently listed for sale in Sandhurst.

Vining continues that this unique property listed at R150 million is a home entered through double gates, up a long, curved driveway past a spacious parking area that can accommodate twenty vehicles, to a large porte-cochère and front door.

“The home (2200 m2 under roof) has marble flooring throughout, and expansive double volume architectural features, and has seven bedrooms and numerous reception areas onto spacious patios with fantastic views.

Other amenities include a fully-fitted and equipped cinema room with leather chairs, a fitted bar room, an eat-in decorative wine cellar, a party/disco room with lighting and sound equipment, a bar and cloakroom and two new kitchens amongst others.

The main suite’s luxurious bathroom includes ‘his’ and ‘hers’ dressing rooms, a sauna, steam room, gym and hairdressing room.

There is also an elevator and rear staircase to all three floors, plus a three-bedroom staff suite as well as a borehole and water tanks, solar heating and home automation.

This enviable mansion is located on 8565 m2 of land and in the grounds a floodlit tennis court, two swimming pools, two gazebos, numerous fountains and a formal, elegant garden can be enjoyed”.

Vining concludes that even though the price tag seems quite extraordinary, the home is actually quite reasonably priced in international terms.
