Clifton Preparatory School is located in the tranquil village of Nottingham Road in the rolling foothills of the Drakensberg. Surrounded by farmland and close to the renowned Gowrie Farm Golf Club, Clifton is situated on 60ha of land. The School is a small, independent day and boarding school (200 day scholars, 100 boarders). Clifton has a fully-equipped equestrian centre with sand and grass arenas, five turf cricket ovals, four tennis courts, two squash courts, a swimming pool and extensive grounds for children to play and grow in. The surrounding farmland is ideal for children to fish, ride and explore. The KZN Midlands is one of the premiere fly fishing destinations in South Africa and our children make full use of the many waters in the area. One of the traditional prep schools in South Africa, Clifton is 69 years old and has proud academic, sporting and cultural traditions. The school has a major focus on environmental education, being a registered Eco-School. The proud academic record of the school is evident in the many scholarship awards to the major independent high schools in the KZN Midlands. In 2010, 11 children won scholarships to various high schools, and 7 in 2011. Clifton can count many provincial and national sportsmen and woman amongst its alumni, most of whom began their sporting careers in the mists of Nottingham Road. Currently, the academic focus of the school includes helping children understand how to work in their preferred learning style. Each child is assessed on entering the school, and is then taught how to learn efficiently and effectively throughout their prep school years. Clifton also benchmarks itself internationally through the Singapore Maths Curriculum, recognised as one of the most efficient and effective maths curriculums in the world of education.Boarding forms a vital part of the school’s culture, and Clifton is regarded as one of the best boarding experiences for children contemplating boarding at high school. Our focus is very clearly on developing happy, academically and socially confident children who will contribute positively to South African society. For a Virtual Tour of this school, follow this link:
