A few short years ago if you were driving up Hendrik Potgieter Drive on the West Rand anything past Struben Valley has open land. Then in what seemed to be almost next to no time along Paul Kruger Road Honeydew Ridge sprung up.
Composed almost exclusively of estates and sectional title developments, the area catered for and encouraged the massive growth being seen in the near west rand. Today there are around 1000 properties in Honeydew Ridge with 60% of those in sectional title properties and just under 40% in estates.
As one might expect the estate properties command a higher price that those in sectional title developments with the average selling price for sectional title properties at R699 000 and those for properties in estates just under double that at R1.36-million. There is also no scarcity of properties for sale in the area with 30 estate properties and 53 sectional title properties being sold in the past 12 months.
As with many other areas that are both new and predominantly sectional title in nature the demographic makeup of the area is skewed towards the younger side of the scale with 50% of recent buyers under 35 and just under 80% of stable owners under 50. Stepping out from Honeydew Ridge the location of the suburb just off Hendrik Potgieter gives residents easy access to shopping in the Clearwater Mall area with Makro and other shops within easy reach.
The 14th Avenue highway interchange is also relatively close although getting through the traffic in the mornings can be challenging. Going the other way down Paul Kruger Road is Wilgeheuwel Hospital and Christian de Wet (which becomes Northumberland and then Witkoppen Road) which opens up access to the northern reaches of Johannesburg.
Education-wise there has not been much development to accompany the growth of this area from a public school perspective but Panorama Primary and Weltevreden Primary are within easy reach as is Allen Glen High School. Charter House private school is within easy reach as is the new Trinity House College in Little Falls.
