Located in the suburb of Hurlyvale, Edenvale, Hurlyvale Primary School strives to provide all of its children with the highest standard of education within a structured, secure and happy environment in order for each child to realise his or her learning potential. Encompassing intellectual, physical, social and moral education, all of the learners at Hurlyvale receive a comprehensive and balanced education within the rationale that all at the school constitute a family.As well as offering the full academic curriculum under the tutorship and guidance of dedicated and experienced teachers, Hurlyvale Primary has an extra-mural calendar that caters for individual strengths in the learners, whether through academic, sports or cultural activities. In addition to a wide variety of sports, the school also offers arts and crafts, fabric painting, speech and drama, cross stitch, cooking club, voice training and singing, Battle of the Books, coupled with extra lessons aimed at enhancing academics. With one learner accepted into a leading role of a major theatre production and another into a major film production while others are constantly participating and excelling in sport on both district and provincial levels, Hurlyvale Primary’s efforts at providing a holistic education at primary school level are paying dividends .In addition to this, Hurlyvale offers a leadership programme based on the States’ policy of co-operative governance. This is available for Grades 6 and 7, and develops leadership skills by affording the learners with the opportunity to be media monitors, scholar patrol monitors, catering monitors, aviary monitors and first aid monitors at the Grade 6 level; and the opportunity to be prefects with a number of sub-duties attached to this in Grade 7, as well as receiving the relevant training in their respective areas of responsibility. This leadership programme gives learners collaborative hands on experience in the leadership of the school while maintaining the “We are Family” ethos of the school.There is a strong emphasis with due consideration given within the operational, resource and financial management of the school to keep up with the latest technology and standards of education while managing class sizes. A strong, well experienced complement of Educators, Administration and Ground staff together with a passionate Senior Management Team, Governing Body, dedicated Counsellors, Remedial teachers, Occupational and speech therapists, furthermore enhance the school’s ability to develop the educational needs of the learners. It is in keeping with this effort that additional facilities have been added to the school structure, including a pre- school, aftercare facility, science lab, media centre, music block, 2 x computer centres and interactive boards in almost 50% of all classrooms.
