Orban Private School – Live to Learn

Private Property South Africa
Claire Fraser

Orban is a dual-medium, Christian-based Pre-Primary and Primary School offering a unique education to learners in the Melville, Northcliff and Auckland Park and surrounding suburbs of Johannesburg.

Orban Private School is dedicated to academic distinction, whilst providing a happy, healthy, family environment for all of its learners. Catering for learners from ages 1 to 14, Orban lays foundations and consolidates as learners grow within the system, as carefully-selected teachers convey a multi-faceted, comprehensive education. The school uses broad-based use of music, art and drama to further develop key areas and the school calendar is rich with events for the enjoyment of the school community.

At the pre-primary school, toddlers and young children are given the freedom to explore and learn in a structured environment where all of their early requirements are met. Grade R learners are taught the Revised National Curriculum. Teachers are well-qualified and undergo consistent training in new teaching trends. Learning is fun and takes place through play to create a lasting impression on little ones. A number of visitors and outings complement the school days, including puppet shows and demonstrations as well as visits to the zoo, Bird Park and theatre. Learners develop at their own pace and the groundwork is laid for primary school in all respects. This includes the development of fundamental skills, as well as an emotional and social programme that will form the backbone of their future learning. An optional range of extra-mural activities are offered during school hours and parents can elect to enrol their children for participation each term.

Orban Primary School is an extension of the environment of care displayed in the Pre-Primary School. The ability of each learner is taken into consideration when developing an approach for his or her individual learning. Teachers are committed to enriching the learning experience – addressing strengths and weaknesses and integrating a positive outlook to the school experience. Over and above this, they are endowed with the knowledge, confidence and determination to continue to excel. As they progress through the Orban system, learners become increasingly independent, critical and creative thinkers. Furthermore, they are given a grounding in language, numeracy, the arts and computer literacy that will help them to build on their primary successes as they proceed to high school.

Certain activities at Orban Primary School are offered by independent specialists on an extra-mural basis including Bible Club, Hip Hop, drama, art and chess to name but a few. These activities enhance the classroom experience and are sporadically reviewed in keeping with popular trends amongst learners.

Sport is viewed as a pivotal facet of learner development at Orban Primary School, giving learners the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Physical training is incorporated into the curriculum, while a host of sports are available under the expert instruction of specialist coaches.
