The Institute of Estate Agents of SA, Western Cape, will for the first time be offering full FETC Real Estate NQF4 training sessions in conjunction with a fully accredited training provider in the Garden Route area, starting on the 26 and 27th May this year and registrations are now open for this, says Annette Evans, general manager of the Institute, Western Cape.
The NQF4 course programme consists of three modules which are split into four contact sessions (each session being two days) over a period of twelve months. There is one compilation session, which is one month before the end of the programme to ensure all files are complete. The final summative assessment happens on the same day as the compilation session. All training material is provided at no extra cost and the sessions are held in a face to face classroom environment. The training provider offers personal support throughout the entire learning process, says Evans, and based on feedback the Institute has received, this goes a long way to providing a great practical and theoretical knowledge base as a successful professional.
Sessions run from 9am to 4pm on the allocated training days and the full cost of the course is R13 500. (Payment terms can be arranged by contacting the Institute.) The training sessions will be held at Pine Lodge Restaurant in Glenwood, George East.
Many will ask what needs to be done to become an agent and why this is necessary, says Evans, and the reason is that in 2008 the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) made it mandatory that all newcomers into the real estate profession and registered with the EAAB (for the first time ‘after’ July 2008) must acquire this qualification. The public are protected by the Estate Agency Affairs Board Fidelity Fund which all registered property professionals pay towards, much the same way as attorneys do.
This qualification covers all the required sales, marketing, ethical, legal and financial skills necessary to sell, lease and market real estate in South Africa.
Once registered, it is the first step in fulfilling the EAAB’s legal requirements (the other requirements for existing agents as at 15 July 2008 are the passing of the Professional Designation Exam (PDE) within two years of earning the full qualification certification from Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SSETA) and ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)). Agents who entered the profession from July 2008 are required to complete a full twelve month internship and complete an EAAB logbook in addition to completing the qualification and writing the PDE.
