Private Property South Africa

This neighbourhood in the north of Johannesburg is sought after for its property and lifestyle. A local resident tells us what makes this Roodepoort suburb great.

Located in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg and o¬ffering reasonably priced properties, Honeydew is a sought-after neighbourhood attracting buyers from all walks of life. Buyers can choose from stylish apartments, secure complexes, prime development land and golf estates.

Honeydew is also home to Sonia Booth; her husband and former Bafana Bafana player, Matthew; and their two sons, Nathan and Noah. Sonia, a philanthropist, inspirational speaker, emcee, columnist, former model, author and Cliff¬ Central.com radio host, says they live in a highly secure estate, which gives them peace of mind. “The boys can ride their bikes and play outdoors without us worrying about their safety.”

Sonia and her family love to have relaxed Sunday lunches at home. They also enjoy driving out of the suburb to the Cradle of Humankind nearby and Muldersdrift for outdoor adventures and unrivalled gastronomic experiences.

The author of two books, How To Reinvent Yourself and Stay Relevant and Surviving ICU, Sonia is currently finalising three other books. She is the founder of Booth Sports, a sports merchandising business, and Bonneventia S, a company that makes and sells shoes. In 2012, she was awarded the Best Innovation Award at the SAB Kickstart Awards.

Estate agents say entry-level homes in Honeydew are likely to show high short-term and long-term returns. This is due to the high demand for the homes, the low maintenance required and the great security they o¬ffer. These homes, therefore, command high rentals.

The area has a number of good schools as well as amenities such as shopping centres, restaurants and entertainment areas.

Honeydew is the best place to raise a family and we also have breath-taking views of the Cradle of Humankind and on a clear day, we can see as far as Magalies Mountains
