J’Something on living in Parkview

Private Property South Africa

Mi Casa frontman J’Something has settled in this upmarket area with his family. These are some of his favourite things about living in Parkview.

One of the Parks suburbs, Parkview is described as a high-demand area, with a desirable lifestyle low property turnover.

Portugal-born Joao Da Fonseca, better known as J’Something – the lead singer of popular band Mi Casa – lives in Parkview with his family. He and his band have won multiple awards, toured the world and yet home is always where the heart is.

“What I like most about Parkview is the peace and tranquillity, and my house is quite secluded so it's private,” says J’Something.

Parkview provides unlimited opportunities for inspiration and creativity. From shopping, restaurants, schools and parks, Parkview has everything a homeowner needs. It is also home to the 18-hole Parkview Golf Course and the four-star Village Green Guest House.

“My house is close to the golf course, which is always a bonus with some quaint little shops in and around the area,” says J’Something.

Parkview Centre on Tyrone Avenue is described by its residents as being a village in the heart of a city with shops such as My Bread and Butter, Tyrone Fruiterers and some health and beauty stores, among others. This is his favourite shopping spot thanks to its village appeal and variety of eateries to choose from.

On a typical weekend, when he is not working, J’Something likes to chill at home cooking. When it comes to eating out, he swears by Pablo Eggs-Go-Bar, and says it’s probably the best breakfast spot in Joburg.

J’Something will open his first restaurant, called Something's Cooking by J on 31 March at Time Square in Menlyn, Pretoria. The restaurant will serve honest, flavour-filled food and will bring together his Portuguese roots, his South African upbringing and his latest obsessions such as Japanese cuisine and healthy alternatives.

“I want guests to feel that emotion and the love not only in the food and how it is prepared, but also in the scenery and service,” says J’Something.

Parkview is an attractive, laid-back suburb – the perfect place to call home.

What I like most about Parkview is the peace and tranquillity, and my house is quite secluded, so it's private.

Rosebank and Parktown
On trend and arty
Rosebank is a multi-cultural, vibrant and exciting suburb of Johannesburg, with an outdoorsy atmosphere. It is a trendy suburb, business centre and tourist attraction in one of Johannesburg's up-market areas. Although Rosebank is home to many head offices, the district also provides plenty of entertainment to its residents and visitors at its variety of shopping malls, restaurants, markets, luxurious hotels, cinemas, art galleries and night clubs. Parktown is home to many businesses, hospitals, schools, churches and restaurants, whilst still maintaining quiet residential areas. Parktown is an old and established suburb, with leafy avenues and a serene atmosphere. Large mansions are a dominant feature in this exclusive suburb, and new developments are rare.
