Springbok and Sharks rugby player Tendai Mtawarira talks about his neighbourhood, Sheffield Beach, one of KwaZulu-Natal’s gems.

When it comes to coastal living, you simply can’t get any better. Tendai Mtawarira, otherwise known as “The Beast” on the rugby field, is one of the many residents who appreciate the beauty of this small town.

Sheffield Beach is situated in a convenient area close to the main highways, such as the M4 and N2, Tiffany’s mall, King Shaka International Airport, the busy town of Umhlanga and many other fun attractions. “Some of the ideal spots to enjoy nature and the outdoors are the Flag Animal Farm and Salt Rock Beach. There are many more spots I still have to explore,” says Tendai. “For the best chow ever, I go to Ray’s Kitchen.”

Boasting incredible sea views, you will find the most treasured beaches in this area, namely Sheffield Beach and Christmas Bay Beach. Known for the surf, fishing, snorkelling and more, these exclusive beaches are immaculate, quiet and beautiful.

Sheffield Beach has grand coastal homes, humble apartments, and mostly recognised for its of A-list estates. With the exceptional uptake of the recently launched Zululami Luxury Coastal Estate, where 590 stands were sold in five weeks, investors and families see the benefit of living in secure estates and fall in love with the lifestyle offering. Brettenwood Coastal Estate is the most prestigious estate in KwaZulu-Natal and the place Tendai and his family call home. “I love Brettenwood because it is super safe and also has a lot to do around the estate for the kids and my wife. It’s suitable for a young family,” says Tendai.

“It is nice and quiet with nature at your doorstep. The highlight of my home is the view. My favourite thing to do is to go to church on Sunday with the family and have a big Sunday lunch.”

Many families are relocating to the area to take advantage of the relaxed coastal lifestyle that the area offers, even though it is just 30 minutes drive from Durban. Ballito has 3 excellent malls offering lots of retail therapy, great restaurants, private schools, private hospitals and ample sporting facilities. Beside the houses and flats in the main residential and beachfront areas, there are many newly built, secure estates that provide a choice of property types for those moving to the area.
