Win a Home

We caught up with the Win A Home Season 3 design contestants and find out what they will bring to the table during the next ten weeks.

Minenhle is 23-years-old and hails from Durban. He has a Bachelors degree in Architectural studies from UKZN with two years experience at Stauch Vorster Architects.

Nice to meet you Minenhle! Why did you decide to enter Win A Home?

Minenhle: I was actually referred to the competition by a friend of mine who has been part of my design journey and whose work I respect. It also made sense since I had recently started freelancing, which meant I was flexible enough and hungry for an opportunity that will teach me a lot.

What is the greatest thing about décor and design for you?

I am fascinated and intrigued by design as a problem solver in the comfort pursuit, which I believe is what design is all about. The element of aesthetic and décor, offers an opportunity for self-expression as a creative, while you enhance and finesse the consumer’s needs and desires.

Where do you look for inspiration?

For me, inspiration is all around us, and I draw most of my inspiration from people. From the people I live with, to those I meet along the way. With regards to design I draw a lot of inspiration from fashion, art and music, from the compositions to the textures and patterns.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

Somewhere in Europe, countries like Germany, England and Greece because of their fashion, art and architecture.

What is the best advice you ever received?

Know yourself.

Do you have a motto that you live by?

Do what makes you happy and take full responsibility for the outcomes, good or bad.

What do you do in your spare time?

Aside from work, football is my life. I enjoy watching and playing soccer. I play central midfielder for at my soccer club. It keeps me fit mentally and physically! I also enjoy going out and exploring with friends and grabbing my camera to take pictures and capturing moments just to keep my creative juices alive.

What is your favourite colour and why?

Probably grey because it is so versatile and can accommodate so many other colours, but I don't actually have a favourite colour.

What do you look forward to the most in this season of Win A Home?

I look forward to maximizing this great opportunity to express myself creatively, whilst harnessing my skills and broadening my horizon in my profession. I also look forward to seeing how the viewers interpret and feel about my work, be it negative or positive.
