Six-time Grammy award winner Billy Joel is selling his sumptuous Miami mansion. Located on star-studded La Gorce Island – which has also been home to Shakira and rapper Lil Wayne, the Mediterranean-style home features marble floors, dramatic staircases, paved courtyards, a luxury pool and spa with cabana, a deep-water boat dock and 50m of water frontage on Biscayne Bay.

Access to the island is restricted and it is patrolled 24/7 on land and by sea. Its hushed streets are lined with towering royal palms – several of which also grace the gardens of Joel’s home – and most homes are reached via stately entrances and sweeping driveways.

A long-time member of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, Joel has sold more than 150m records worldwide, and included SA in his 2006 world tour. Following his first hit with “Piano Man” in 1973, the singer/ pianist wrote and performed many of the songs that made up the soundtrack of life in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, including “She’s Always a Woman”, “Tell Her About It”, ”Uptown Girl”, “Honesty”, “You May Be Right”, “An Innocent Man” and arguably his most rocking tune, “We Didn’t Start the Fire”.

His home, which has seven bedrooms and eight exquisitely designed bathrooms, also boasts a bar and wine cellar, and indoor and outdoor kitchens well-equipped for entertaining, as well as several lavish reception rooms with magnificent arched windows. The asking price is US$14,75 million.
