Unleash Your Inner Decorista

Private Property South Africa

I don’t know how anyone else goes about decorating, but I find myself buying gorgeous – read: useless – accessories and then not knowing how best to display them. Probably, my need is for a functional coffee table rather than the sumptuous ottoman that stole my heart the day I went out for bread and milk and ended up in a décor shop instead.

Perhaps you do things the other way around … gravitating towards the practical and missing out on the delight of creating the “layers” that create the inviting home environments we see on Top Billing.

Never fear! Decorex SA 2013 is launching in Durban this week and promises a convention centre full of both functional and fun goodies. From frivolous ornaments to foodie seminars (and the slick kitchens to match). From crafted goods and one-off artworks to coffee bars and accessories. From lights and blinds to bathroom inspiration. Ottomans and coffee tables, and experts to advise on which to use where! And a whole lot more – there’s something for everyone, every taste and every home.

And then of course, there is the custom furniture and fabric on show. Form, function and frivolity all given equal prominence.

Of course, long-time Decorex partner Plascon will be there in all its hues and shades, showcasing its four palettes for 2013. Looking for the perfect colour for your kid’s playroom? Check out Golden Daffodil from the Contrast collection. Decorating a dreamy bedroom? Pause collection’s Lovers Tryst should do the trick. My fave is brilliant orange Sunset in the Desert (Dare). But I also love the Metallic Silver in Simplicity … oh, the decisions!

We at Privateproperty.co.za are particularly excited about the party-themed stand we’re hosting as a “house warming” for our all-new, bigger and better website. Pop in and we’ll demo the beta version of our site (of which we’re immeasurably proud) and also walk you through using our iPad app so that you can find your perfect property anytime, anyplace. Even while sitting on your sofa with your feet up on your ottoman (or coffee table).
