Hout Bay
Seaside bliss near the city
Commonly known as the “Republic of Hout Bay”, Hout Bay has the feeling of a faraway holiday beach town. It is, however, just a quick and beautiful 25 minute drive from Cape Town's city centre. Hout Bay is a community driven hub, with everyone working together for the greater good of the area, everyone feels like family. Located at the core of the Two Oceans Marathon and the Cape Argus, it is a sporty area with many cyclists and runners.

Experience Hout Bay

Hout Bay is a close community, everyone knows one another. There is a kaleidoscope of people from all walks of life – locals and internationals.

There are some young professionals that choose to live in Hout Bay to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Living in Hout Bay is also more affordable than city living. Predominantly though, the area attracts small families with young children. It’s a great place to settle and the houses are well sized for growing families.

There is a newly built International School in Hout Bay to cater for the variety of nationalities that live the bay. Hout Bay is not as much of a commercial hub as it is a community. Most people work in Cape Town CBD, and do the daily commute along the beautiful coastline.

We have lived in Hout Bay for six years and recently moved to a small holding where we live in a delightful cottage, surrounded by horses and stables.

There are countless restaurants to sample, ranging from Cheynne’s and Kitima to Thai Café and Posticino. Whether it’s fine dining, pasta, dinner with friends, date night, or take-aways, Hout Bay has the answer.

We have a beautiful all round view of the bay and the mountains, a lovely house and pool and have lived here for seven years. I feel happy here, there is an excellent Neighbourhood Watch group.

Hout Bay is located on both the route of the Two Oceans Marathon and the Cape Argus. There are therefore many cyclists and runners in the area. The bay is often very still, and creates the ideal condition for stand-up paddling and canoeing.

What is unique to Hout Bay is that it is surrounded by mountains and there is a feeling of being closed off to the world – we have our own world here.
