Area and property guide to Rowallan Park

This quiet and friendly neighbourhood has seen property values increase due to nearby developments.

The quiet and friendly suburb of Rowallan Park lies a stone’s throw away from the N2 and is close to Kabega Park and Hunters Retreat.

Lesleigh Moodaley, a lecturer at Port Elizabeth College, has lived in Rowallan Park for nine years and couldn’t be happier. “I love the quietness of the area and the fact that I’m not very far from the neighbourhood I grew up in and close to my parents.”

When Lesleigh and her husband found their house, it was the large size of the erf that convinced them to buy. “The biggest attraction for me was the huge palm tree in front of the house as well as the size of our backyard, which makes it a pleasure for my kids to play in safe and secure surroundings.”

Lesleigh, who lives with her husband, seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, says although there have been some changes to the area, the peaceful nature of the suburb has stayed the same. “The area is still very quiet and has friendly and caring neighbours.”

Lesleigh says the value of their property has increased because of the development that has taken place in the surrounding areas. She says the development of Baywest Mall has had a positive impact on Rowallan Park and made the lives of people living in and around the area easier. “The mall is only a five-minute drive from my house, which is very convenient. I’m also very close to Hunters Spar, which is practically on my doorstep.”

While the area is generally quiet, Lesleigh says it can also be lively, with many residents braaiing on Friday and Saturday evenings. “There’s also a bit of music, but no one goes overboard.”

Rowallan Park is also only about 15 minutes’ drive away from Seaview. “Everything is in close proximity and easily accessible. I would definitely recommend the area to people looking to buy. It’s quiet and safe, close to Baywest Mall and Hunters Spar, and being so close to the N2 makes travelling to work an absolute pleasure for me,” says Lesleigh.

I don’t know much about the history of the area, but I know it was a suburb where only white people lived before. But if you look at it now, it has all cultures living together and we all get along so well.
