The Win A Home Design Duos take on their first decor challenge
In the Season 5 premiere of Win a Home, we introduced you to this year’s Design Duos, judges and the magazine clients. The Design Duos challenge is to transform their white-box penthouse apartments into fully furnished designer apartments incorporating local design, bespoke features and keeping to the briefs given to them by their magazine clients all while keeping within their allocated budgets.
This week sees our Duos taking on their first room challenge, the transformation of the guest bedroom and study room / spare room.
Before they get started our Duos meet their mentor for this first challenge, the Win a Home Season 3 winner, Rudolph Jordaan. He is there to give them advice from his experience on the show and his work with clients since winning the show.
First point of call for the Win A Home Design Duos first challenge is a visit to Oggie Flooring to select the flooring for their penthouses. Next stop is to Weylandts to select some key furniture pieces for their guest bedrooms.
As incorporating local designers for bespoke furniture collaborations is key to meeting the brief the Duos meet with their chosen collaborations to get their bespoke piece underway.
For their glam room collaboration Rekopile Belebesi and Koketso Marole of Team R&K reached out to fine artist Donna Solovei, whom they found on Instagram & commissioned to create a painting.
Nicholas Smit and Kehumile Mate of Team Contrast Control reached out to interior designer Oliver Sherwell for their collaboration. Oliver created a stunning fabric wraparound headboard for their guest bedroom.
Sinead Turner and Melissa Oosthuizen of Team Perma Peeps collaborated with Melissa’s company East Haus & Tinsley Woodcrafters to create their Murphy's Law bed unit with a steel base and custom made floating shelves.
