What to consider before building a home

Ease some of the stress of building your first home with Nedbank's helpful tips on what to consider before taking the plunge.

Building your own home can be quite an attractive option for customers who want to create something that is quite personalized and they own. However, other customers prefer actually buying a home that's already built because it can be far more cost-effective. Some of the tips that I would suggest you consider when building a home for the first time.

Tip 1:

The first one would be to know your builder. So make sure that he or she is registered with the NHBRC and has a proven track record of completing jobs timeously and within the standard required.

Tip 2:

The second would be to make sure that you understand the building process. Nedbank offers a building loan that allows customers to purchase a building package, and then we issue progress payments or payments as, and when, the building gets completed. So it's not a total loan payout.

Tip 3:

The last thing to make sure of is that the plans have been approved by the municipality. So, make sure that whichever plans are drawn up, either by an architect or a planner, have been approved.
