Pietermaritzburg, set amidst the rolling countryside of the Natal Midlands, is one of the best preserved Victorian cities in the world. It's a deeply historical city, characterised by museums and historical routes. Pietermaritzburg is the capital and second largest city in the province. The city is well served with transport links and is conveniently situated between Durban and Johannesburg. It's a thriving modern capital that has carried its history fully into the present. Although Springs is a predominantly industrial city, its suburbs are lush and leafy, with many trees, parks and open spaces giving it a suburban character. This neighbourhood offers a peaceful and quiet lifestyle, about 50km from Johannesburg. Founded as a coal and gold mining town in 1904, Springs has a rich history which can be seen in its older buildings that bring the past into the present. This is an economically diverse neighbourhood with employment opportunities in many industries ranging from manufacturing, to commerce, to hospitality and mining.
