The start of a new year is a great time to breathe new life and energy into your home and the good news is, it doesn’t need to cost a thing.

Feng shui - meaning wind and water - is the ancient art of arranging your home so that you attract positive energy into it. Once you begin to make changes in your home, you will notice your energy levels will change too. You can look forward to waking up feeling more energized, motivated to get things done and with an overall positive outlook on life.

Feng shui is not just about making your home look good, it's about aligning your home with your life's intentions.

Here are a few simple feng shui tips you can introduce into your home to attract positive energy flow into 2018.

1. Remove Clutter

If you want to create a new future for yourself, it's important to remove clutter from your space. Clutter creates obstruction in your life and drains your energy.

This doesn't mean you need to be a minimalist. It is important to distinguish between storing things you want and those that you no longer use, need and have place for.

If the task seems too big, focus on one room a month and remove anything you don't need or that doesn't belong there. A clutter free house not only has more positive energy but it is also more peaceful.

2. Light and Colour

Natural Light is vital for your health and well-being. Light symbolizes light force, it uplifts dark spaces and lightens the mood.

Vibrant, beautiful colours also have the ability to nourish your energy. Using happy, alive colours in your interiors; be it a wall colour, vibrant art, furniture and accessories or fresh flowers, together with natural light will add beauty and strengthen your energy and motivation.

3. Houseplants

Plants breathe life into a space and increase the flow of energy in a home. While houseplants may need a bit of TLC, when they are healthy they help to clear away negative energy and add more positive energy to a space.

4. Aromas

We all know the importance of smell when it comes to selling your home. Baked bread or muffins warm up potential buyers and make them feel more at home. But the importance of scents is just as important even if you aren't selling your home. Use pure and natural essential oils to enhance the mood you want to create. Soothe the senses with geranium and lavender oil or if you need to work late, choose peppermint or lemon grass for your home office.

5. Feed the Birds

Windows are frames to the world outside. Birds in feng shui signify good luck and financial opportunities. Enjoy the beauty of birds in your area by putting up a bird feeder or bird bath in sight of the window which will make you enjoy the view even more.

Follow these simple tips and if you like the results you may like to get more involved in the theory of feng shui. The location of your home and how your furniture is arranged, the importance of colour and where to use it and how to use the five elements. Fire, earth, metal, water and wood.
