Northlands Girls’ High School was established in 1949 and is situated in the heart of Durban North, Durban, on the east coast of South Africa. We are proud of our traditions, our ‘Old Girls’ and our history.

Our first priority is ensuring our 750 girls, aged 12 to 18, receive a first class, relevant, values-based education. Our girls are privileged to be taught in an environment of care, respect and creativity, and our small classes allow each girl’s uniqueness to be celebrated. We have a nurturing environment in which to work, play and create happy and lasting memories. A highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers remains true to our mission of equipping young women for successful and fulfilled lives.

The impressive curriculum available at Northlands Girls’ High School is broad, offering our girls a wide range of subject options ensuring them the opportunity to gain entrance into a tertiary institution of their choice. We teach, among other subjects at Matric level, French, Music, IT, Business Studies and Consumer Studies. Our consistent 100% Matric pass rate is a reflection of our high standards. Thus our reputation of being the girls’ high school of choice stands solid.

Our school is visionary in outlook. Every classroom is equipped with the latest technology and our facilities and buildings are beautifully maintained. Our vibrant music, art and drama departments provide unique opportunities for our girls to explore their talents and increase their confidence. Our school has an extensive extramural programme with the girls enjoying many varied pursuits which include debating, dance, softball, ceramics, chess, choir and surfing.

We believe physical exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle and offer a selection of team and individual sports to suit all tastes and levels of skill. Our school is proud to have produced many sportswomen at Provincial and National level in numerous fields. Compassion, one of the core values of our school, finds expression in the community support and service the girls provide through various community outreach programmes.

Our girls are our greatest Ambassadors. Through our ‘Poised for Excellence’ finishing programme we share with our girls the importance of taking care of how they present themselves to the world and remind them of the importance of good manners and courtesy at school, at work and socially.
