Foutani Farm is situated in the Eastern Free State between Clarens and Fouriesburg on the R 711 on the Maloti Tourism Route. The Farm is 320 kilometers from Johannesburg, 428 kilometers from Durban and 250 kilometers from Bloemfontein. Its ideally suited for easy getaways.
The Farm is 896.96 hectares, of spectacular scenery, of which there is approximately 160 hectares on top of the mountain, grazing about 506 hectares, arable land is currently 130 hectares, and another 50 hectares can be added once contours are put in place. The guest lodge, restaurant, house, workshop and barn is on about 50 hectares.
The agricultural land is currently rented out on a short term lease at R1320 per hectare per annum, plus vat.
The produce that can be grown in this area are soya beans, sugar beans, maize, sunflowers, wheat, potatoes, asparagus, and cabbages, as well as cherries, apples, pears, and peaches.
The farm has some areas that we grow grass for cutting and baling for animal feed. This brings in between R400 to R500 a bale.
Cattle and sheep bring in good returns as well as the sheep wool cut twice a year is extra income. Milking is also an option.
The farm have pre approval (not final approval) for 75 chalets, conference center, chapel and restaurant. Our restaurant seats 50 people, it has a large kitchen, cold room, pantry, downstairs bar, office and ladies and gents toilets. Upstairs two lounges, bar, and ladies and gents toilets.
The farm has cut sand stone blocks on the farm to build 2 chalets with as well as recovered the building sand from the river. There is also a forest of blue gum trees that can be used for building or sold for extra income. There are a number of springs in the mountains which we draw water from for the house, restaurant and guest house. The water supply is available the whole year. There is more than sufficient for a spring water bottling plant which we have implemented for the guests.
The Farm offers hiking trails, 4x4 trails, horse riding, and once or twice a year we organize off road motorcycle cross country rallies. There are caves and waterfalls on the trails to the top of the mountain. We have had rock climbers on the mountain as well as people abseiling down the cliffs. This area is ideal for Zip lining. The small Caledon River borders the Farm for nearly 7 kilometers, we fish and swim or tube on the river when it is safe and not in flood. The area is a bird watchers paradise, as well as home to small indigenous animals, such as porcupine, steenbok, blesbok, jackal and wild cat.
