In geothermal areas, hot rocks and high temperature groundwater are at shallow depths.

Hot Spring Resorts Developing holiday destinations where there is a Geothermal source.

Greenhouses Farmers have used water heated by geothermal energy for hundreds of years to grow vegetables in the winter.

Fisheries Geothermal energy is also used in fish farms (Aqua Farming). The warm water spurs the growth of animals ranging from alligators, shellfish, tropical fish, amphibians to Tilapia.

Industrial use Industry is another consumer of geothermal energy. Its uses vary from drying fruits, drying vegetables, drying wood, and dying wool etc..

Other:

Electricity generation

Residential development

Aqua Diving - if such recreational pond is built for this propose.

Hot springs are graded in general on four quality parameters:

1. Temperature of the water (usually the lower temperature sources from 25C - 47 C (75.2F and 116.6F) and then Scalding hot temperature sources from 48C - 51C (118.4F and 123.8F). The higher the temperature the more uses there are and the higher the value of the geothermal source (hot spring). (the diagram in the fact pack illustrates this very well)

2. Volume of water. The higher the volume (measured by litres per hour) the more uses there are and the higher the value of the geothermal source.

3. Sensorial quality. Determine with your senses (e.g sight and smell) does the water have a bad smell (e.g. Like Sulphur, which hot springs often have) and sight, e.g is spring water clear or murky ?. The cleaner and clearer the water with the least amount of smell the higher the value of the geothermal source.

4. Intrinsic quality of water. Chemical composition of the water. The chemical composition will be unique to every hot spring and based of the chemical composition a specific hot spring will be more suitable for some applications than other.
