The farm SARUM, adjacent to the Vivo road, set against the majestic Soutpansberg mountain range, is home to this third generation farming enterprise. A 491 hectare cattle farm, with fully developed facilities, it shares a common border with the farmers second property RUDYARD. In total this allows for almost 900 hectare of grazing. The infrastructure on this property, the kraals, sheds, main home and even silage pits are constructed from local stone, unique and able to withstand the elements and time. A rock plunge pool allows visitors the opportunity to cool off while admiring the sunsets. 12 Volt electricity and a donkey boiler are used at the lodge. Access with normal drive bakkies ends here. The remainder of the climb to RUDYARD requires a 4x4 and skilled driving. Sarum is a cattle farm running 120 to 150 head of cattle. It also had a successful piggery with 100 sows. The pig styes are well constructed, stone under zinc. To complete the list is a large shed and outbuildings, also of stone under zinc. An engineering feat is the construction of a road from Serum to Rudyard the mountain top farm. This 700 meter climb through the foothills is a 4x4 enthusiasts challenge and is used by them to reach the lodges on Rudyard. Eco-camping is offered with perhaps the most beautiful views the Soutpansberg have to offer. Sarums water supply is mountain spring water, gravity fed to 3 cement dams and to the watering troughs in the 10 livestock camps. Sufficient for man, beast and livestock it has never failed.
