Harcourts shows its heart

Each Harcourts agent donates R30 from each deal to the group's Foundation. A well of goodwill follows, with agents proposing causes close to their hearts and the Foundation making donations or organising initiatives. The Foundation has, to date, raised in excess of R2-million for South African charities.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the Harcourts agents have certainly been busy ...

In March 2013, Harcourts Hilton participated in the Leap Challenge. This is a mountain bike ride from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg over 11 days. All the funds raised during the challenge are used to school disadvantaged children at Grace College in Hilton, KZN. To this end, the Foundation sponsored R5 000.

Harcourts Sapphire Coast is involved with Amanzimtoti Cares, a charity that cares for the less fortunate in the community. The charity does not simply give money out, rather it offers a helping hand to those who really need one - for example, providing food hampers for 14 families every week. The charity assists families of newborn babies, the unemployed, and those who need to become more self-sufficient. The agency's Michelle Dunnett put this cause forward to the Foundation, and was granted R5 000 to assist with these initiatives.

The Give a Child a Family organisation exists to see to the needs to the ever-increasing number of children who are affected by HIV/Aids. Many of the children currently in the organisation's care are orphaned or abandoned, or have been removed from their families due to neglect. The organisation channels its efforts into strengthening family units or providing alternates, such as foster homes. Harcourts Property Perfect, represented by Mike Willemse, put this cause forward, and the Foundation donated R10 000.

Harcourts Ballito spearheaded a National Braai Day initiative in September, which aimed to raise R20 for the Foundation for every boerewors roll that was handed out to passersby. The office challenged all other offices to beat their donation, and the Foundation offered to match the highest donation in order for the winner to make a donation to a charity of its choice.
